Sheriff's deputies will conduct increased impaired-driving patrols on Saturday, July 4, and throughout the holiday weekend, the San Diego County Sheriff's Office announced.
The agency said 4,068 people have been arrested for driving under the influence in San Diego County so far in 2026. Sheriff's deputies have made 593 of those arrests, according to the release.
Officials reminded drivers that impaired driving includes alcohol, prescription drugs and marijuana. The Sheriff's Office advised anyone who drinks to arrange a designated driver, ride-share service or taxi before getting behind the wheel.
For Santee residents heading to fireworks, family gatherings or events across East County, the advisory means extra enforcement may be visible on local roads during one of the busiest travel weekends of the summer. Funding for the holiday patrols comes from a California Office of Traffic Safety grant through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, according to the Sheriff's Office.
