A wildfire in the Dehesa and Harbison Canyon area prompted evacuation orders Wednesday after starting in the 6100 block of Dehesa Road, according to East County Magazine and East County Wildfire & Emergency Alerts.
The Dehesa7Fire had burned 93 acres, with forward progress stopped and containment at 5%, according to the report. Evacuation orders remained in place for zones SDC-1867 and SDC-1868, while evacuation warnings were lifted for SDC-1780, SDC-1781, SDC-1783, SDC-1861, SDC-1865 and SDC-1944.
The fire was burning uphill toward Alpine Heights, and structures were threatened during the response. Dehesa Road was closed between Harbison Canyon Road and Tavern Road.
For Santee and East County residents, the fire is another reminder that evacuation zones can change quickly during backcountry fire incidents. Residents near the area should check Genasys Protect for current evacuation status rather than relying on older social media updates.
A temporary evacuation point was established at the east lot of Viejas Casino, 5000 Willows Road off Interstate 8 in Alpine. East County Magazine credited the fire photo to Paul Levikow, taken from Crest.
