If you have anything loose in the backyard, now is the time to tie it down. The National Weather Service San Diego has issued a Wind Advisory for Santee and the East County valleys, with northeast winds of 15 to 30 mph gusting through this weekend.
Today (Saturday) winds are running around 15 mph with gusts to 30 mph under sunny skies, with highs near 77°. Conditions ease overnight, but breezy conditions return Sunday — and with them, some unusually warm temperatures. Sunday's forecast calls for a high near 88°, with east winds picking up again in the afternoon and gusts potentially reaching 25 mph.
The advisory remains in effect through Sunday at 5 PM PDT. The NWS warns that the winds could bring down tree limbs, scatter unsecured outdoor furniture and decorations, and create hazardous driving conditions for high-profile vehicles and trailers on Highway 67 and Mission Gorge Road.
The warm, dry, and breezy conditions also raise fire weather concerns — Santa Ana-like conditions in early March are not unusual for East County but are worth watching closely. CalFire has increased awareness during similar dry wind events.
A slight chance of showers returns Sunday night into early Monday, offering some relief. Tuesday through Thursday looks sunny and warm, with temperatures climbing back toward the upper 80s by next Thursday.
For Santee residents planning outdoor activities this weekend, Saturday afternoon is the best window — breezy but manageable. Sunday's warmth is welcome, but the wind and possibility of a brief shower Sunday night are worth keeping an eye on. Check the latest NWS forecast before heading out.
