The National Weather Service in San Diego issued a heat advisory Monday for San Diego County valleys, including Santee, with the advisory set to run from 10 a.m. Tuesday through 8 p.m. Thursday. Forecasters said high temperatures will climb into the upper 90s to around 100 degrees.

The advisory covers the inland valley zone that includes Santee, where afternoon heat can build fast and linger into the evening. That means the worst of the heat may hit right when school, work and errands are all still in motion.

For Santee families, the practical move is simple: drink plenty of water, cut back on strenuous outdoor work during the hottest part of the day, and keep an eye on kids, older adults, pets and anyone without reliable cooling. Cooling breaks and shade will matter more than usual this week.
