The National Weather Service issued a High Wind Watch Tuesday for San Diego County inland valleys and mountains, including the Santee area, with the watch set to run from Thursday morning through Saturday evening.

Forecasters said northeast and east winds of 25 to 35 mph are possible in the mountains, with gusts up to 70 mph. Valley and foothill locations could see gusts up to 60 mph, according to the weather service.

The strongest period is expected Friday. The weather service said damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines, power outages are possible and travel could be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.

For Santee, the watch comes as the local forecast turns warmer and drier after the weekend storm. The point forecast for Santee calls for highs near 80 on Thursday and Friday, with breezy conditions Friday as winds pick up.

Residents should monitor the latest National Weather Service updates, secure outdoor furniture, canopies and decorations, and use caution around trees, power lines and exposed roads if winds increase.
