A wildfire that began in Mexico crossed into the United States on Tuesday and burned about 200 acres on the U.S. side of the border, according to East County Magazine.
The Border 6 Fire was burning in the Marron Valley area between Dulzura and Barrett Junction, with zero percent containment as of East County Magazine’s 4:20 p.m. update. The same report said the fire had burned more than 400 acres in Mexico.
Cal Fire aircraft were making drops on the blaze, which was burning in a remote area. Cal Fire Capt. Mike Cornette told East County Magazine that no structures were threatened at the time of the update.
Smoke from the fire was visible across southeastern San Diego County. Residents who encounter heavy smoke should keep windows closed and avoid outdoor activity when possible.
For Santee residents, the fire is not a direct threat, but it is another early-season reminder that East County fire conditions can change quickly. Residents can monitor Cal Fire and county emergency channels for official updates.
