A Santee man seriously injured in a Poplin Drive collision last week has lost both legs, according to ABC 10News, which identified him as 37-year-old Shawn Bell. The crash happened just after 10:30 a.m. while Bell was standing behind a truck and helping secure furniture.

ABC 10News reported that a minivan struck Bell at full speed. Bell, a former National Guard reservist, told the station that he used his training in the moments after the crash, directing others to use belts as tourniquets before he was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver stayed at the scene and has not been arrested, according to ABC 10News. Investigators told the station that drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The update follows earlier reports of a serious pedestrian collision on Poplin Drive in Santee.
