SPRING VALLEY, Calif., July 1, 2026 -- A dispute between two Spring Valley residents led to a SWAT standoff Tuesday afternoon and ended with one man under arrest, according to City News Service and ABC 10News.

The confrontation happened in the 9000 block of Mac Lane, where one of the people involved called 911 shortly before 1:30 p.m. to report that the other resident had made threats of violence while armed with a firearm. The San Diego County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to the neighborhood after the report.

Deputies said the suspect, identified in the report as 34-year-old John Lewis, allegedly retreated into his home when law enforcement arrived. After repeated orders to come outside and surrender were not successful, a special weapons and tactics team was called to the scene.

The standoff ended at about 3 p.m., when Lewis came out of the residence and surrendered without further incident. He was expected to be booked into county jail on suspicion of issuing criminal threats.

For Santee and East County residents, the incident is a reminder of how quickly neighborhood disputes can draw a major law enforcement response when weapons or threats are reported. Source: ABC 10News / City News Service.
