El Cajon police are renewing their call for information in the long-unsolved killing of Alicia Ledezma Sanchez, a 30-year-old mother of three whose remains were found in an open area off the 1300 block of Avocado Avenue on Aug. 13, 1998, according to ABC 10News and City News Service.

Investigators believe Sanchez had been dead for up to six weeks before she was found. Her death was classified as a homicide, though authorities have not publicly released a cause-of-death ruling.

For years, police did not know the victim's identity. El Cajon cold-case detectives revived the investigation in 2003, later obtained DNA from her remains, and used genetic genealogy work beginning in 2023 to help identify her after a possible family member came forward.

The El Cajon Police Department is asking anyone who may know about Sanchez or the circumstances surrounding her death to contact investigators. For Santee and East County residents, the renewed appeal is close to home: Avocado Avenue is part of the broader East County corridor, and police say even information that once seemed too small may now matter.

Anyone with information is asked to contact El Cajon police at 619-579-3320 or coldhomicideunit@elcajon.gov. Source: ABC 10News, "Authorities renew call for information in 1998 El Cajon murder cold case."
