Sorrento Fire Arson Case Has Ties to Santee and Jamul

A man accused of starting the Sorrento Fire pleaded not guilty to a felony arson charge Wednesday, August 19, according to East County Magazine. The fire burned about 138 acres in and around Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve before crews stopped its forward spread.

Prosecutors allege Brandon James Glasgo intentionally started the fire after an encounter with a bicyclist on a trail, East County Magazine reported. The outlet said no injuries or structural damage were reported, and San Diego Fire-Rescue reported the fire was 75% contained Tuesday while crews continued work on fire lines and hot spots.

The case has an East County connection. East County Magazine reported that Glasgo's public Facebook profile identifies him as a former Santana High School student in Santee and a former poker dealer at Jamul Casino Resort. The outlet also cited school athletic records tying a Brandon Glasgo to Santana High School sports in the early 2010s.

For Santee residents, the case is a reminder that wildfire investigations often reach beyond the immediate burn area. The Sorrento Fire happened outside East County, but the suspect's reported local ties put the court case on the radar for Santee and Jamul readers.

The allegations have not been proven in court. East County Magazine reported that Glasgo entered a not-guilty plea, with bail set at $75,000 and release conditions that would include GPS monitoring and a prohibition on possessing incendiary devices.
