A man was arrested after an SUV caught fire Sunday at a Spring Valley storage facility, according to East County Magazine, citing the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies from the Rancho San Diego station responded around 11 a.m. to a report of a vehicle fire at a Public Storage facility in the 1200 block of Sweetwater Road. A deputy saw an SUV fully engulfed in flames and later identified a man walking away as Randall Rojas, 32, according to the report.

Sheriff's Sgt. Anthony Tripoli told East County Magazine that Rojas fled toward Jamacha Road when the deputy tried to stop him and attempted to discard evidence related to the fire. Deputies apprehended him near 8600 Jamacha Road, and a records check found two outstanding felony warrants, according to the report.

Detectives from the Sheriff's Bomb and Arson Unit investigated. East County Magazine reported that multiple witnesses identified Rojas as being near the SUV before and after the fire, and he was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of arson and the outstanding warrants.

No injuries were reported. For Santee residents, the case is a reminder that Sheriff's specialty units and East County patrol stations often work across neighboring communities when fires, suspicious activity or property crimes cross city lines.
