A wanted man was arrested Wednesday after a brief East County pursuit ended in Lakeside and deputies recovered a handgun, suspected cocaine, cash and suspected stolen property, according to Patch and the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies tried to stop 33-year-old Brandon Huang about 2:30 p.m. because he was wanted on a felony warrant, Patch reported. Authorities said Huang did not stop, and the pursuit ended in the 12700 block of Mapleview Street in Lakeside.
Huang then ran from the vehicle and tried to discard an unserialized Glock-style handgun, according to the report. A Sheriff's Department ASTREA helicopter helped deputies locate the firearm, and deputies later found Huang hiding inside a building near Ashwood and Laurel streets. He was arrested without further incident.
Deputies said a search of the vehicle turned up about 800 grams of suspected cocaine, about $10,000 in cash and suspected stolen property. Huang was booked into San Diego Central Jail on multiple felony charges, and the U.S. Marshals Service San Diego Fugitive Task Force assisted in the investigation.
The incident happened in Lakeside, but it is still close enough for Santee readers to watch because the same Sheriff's Department regional resources and East County patrol network often cover neighboring communities. Patch published the source report Thursday morning.
