Deputies from the Rancho San Diego Sheriff's Station pulled over a vehicle shortly before 2 a.m. Monday on State Route 125 near Jamacha Road in Spring Valley โ the reason was routine enough, an expired registration sticker. What they found inside was anything but.
The driver, identified as Angelina Cook, 46, was found in possession of five grams of methamphetamine. Cook was issued a citation for possession of an illegal narcotic and released at the scene, according to Sergeant Timothy Clark of the SDSO.
The passenger, Raul Eguiza, 43, was a different story. Deputies found approximately 170 grams of methamphetamine on him โ a quantity far exceeding personal use. A records check revealed Eguiza was on high-risk county probation and had an active felony warrant. He was arrested on multiple criminal charges related to illegal narcotics and booked into the San Diego Central Jail.
The Rancho San Diego Sheriff's Station patrols a large portion of East County, including Spring Valley, Jamul, and surrounding unincorporated communities. State Route 125, where the stop occurred near Jamacha Road, is a major corridor connecting Spring Valley to the broader East County region.
No further suspects were identified, and the investigation is being handled by the Rancho San Diego station.
