Spring Valley filmmakers Devin and Jeanne Scott are among the local creators featured at this week’s GI Film Festival San Diego, according to East County Magazine. The festival runs May 6-8 at the Museum of Photographic Arts at the San Diego Museum of Art.
The Scotts are scheduled to premiere their 14-minute animated short, “The Craftsman,” during the Narrative Shorts Block at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 8. East County Magazine reported that the film is nominated for the festival’s Local Choice Award and uses a blend of traditional storytelling and artificial intelligence.
The festival, organized by KPBS in partnership with the Film Consortium San Diego, includes 15 films this year. The lineup focuses on themes including post-war healing, resilience, family sacrifice and the connection between military and civilian communities.
For Santee and East County residents, the festival offers a nearby way to support local filmmakers while engaging with stories tied closely to the region’s military community. Each screening is followed by a panel discussion with filmmakers, veterans or subject-matter experts.
Tickets are available through the GI Film Festival San Diego website. General admission is $15 per screening, while military members, veterans and KPBS members can purchase tickets for $10, according to East County Magazine.
