Eight horses rescued from the Villa Chardonnay property in Julian have found a new East County home at Horses of Tir Na Nog in Guatay, according to East County Magazine.

The animals were part of a larger San Diego Humane Society case involving more than 700 animals, including roughly 165 horses and ponies. The Guatay sanctuary, established in 2003, provides non-riding care for horses with medical needs or advanced age.

East County Magazine reported that other horses from the case are also being placed, including several that went to a Murrieta organization where one horse is expected to serve in therapy work for veterans with PTSD.

San Diego Humane Society officials said 48 horses remained in their care, with 37 ready for adoption. The remaining horses were moved in July from Julian to Willow Glen Equestrian Centre in El Cajon to make them more accessible to staff, volunteers and potential adopters.
