Santee residents who need the Sheriff’s Department for a non-emergency now have a new number to save: 858-868-3200.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office said the line is now in service for reports such as suspicious activity, noise complaints, non-urgent reports and general information requests, according to City News Service reporting published by ABC 10News. The agency is asking residents to update their contacts and share the number with family and neighbors.
Calls to the new line are answered by a trained voice AI system that asks a short series of questions before routing callers to the right sheriff’s resource, providing information or connecting them with a dispatcher. The Sheriff’s Office said the system is designed to reduce wait times for as many as 400,000 non-emergency calls each year.
The change matters in Santee because the city contracts with the Sheriff’s Department for law enforcement services. Officials emphasized that 911 remains the number to call for immediate threats to life or property, crimes in progress, serious injuries, fires or medical emergencies.
For routine sheriff’s help, the new number is 858-868-3200. In an emergency, call 911.
