SDG&E has announced two planned overnight power outages in Borrego Springs later this month as part of the utility's ongoing efforts to improve electrical reliability in the remote East County desert community.
The first outage is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18, 2026, running from 7:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Thursday morning. The second outage will take place Tuesday, March 24, 2026, from 7:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Wednesday. Both outages are planned for nighttime hours to minimize disruption during daylight.
"We understand these outages can be disruptive and appreciate your patience while we conduct this important work to build a more resilient electric system," SDG&E stated in its announcement.
The utility did not specify the exact areas of Borrego Springs that will be affected, but residents throughout the community should prepare accordingly โ charging devices, securing refrigerated food, and planning for the lack of power overnight.
Borrego Springs, an unincorporated community within San Diego County and a popular destination for East County residents visiting Anza-Borrego Desert State Park's spring wildflower blooms, relies on a transmission infrastructure that requires periodic upgrades. The planned outages are part of SDG&E's broader grid reliability initiatives.
