Deputies arrested a woman Saturday after authorities said a taxi was stolen in Santee and driven through a 25-mile pursuit that ended in Mission Valley.
According to City News Service, San Diego County Sheriff’s Office deputies spotted the taxi at 4:12 p.m. near Mission Gorge Road and Big Rock Road after it had been reported stolen earlier from the area of Mesa Road and Mission Gorge Road. Lt. Joe Barry told City News Service that deputies tried to stop the taxi before the pursuit began.
The chase involved the Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol, San Diego Police Department and the Sheriff’s ASTREA helicopter, according to the report. CHP officers deployed a spike strip on westbound Interstate 8 in Mission Valley, bringing the taxi to a stop at about 4:50 p.m.
Barry told City News Service the pursuit was mostly slow, happened in light traffic and ended without other cars being hit. The woman was taken into custody after contact with a police dog and was expected to be booked into Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility in Santee after hospital treatment, according to the report.
