A Santee hockey coach is drawing attention along the California coast while skating from Vancouver, Canada, toward San Diego to raise money for youth hockey gear.
Mendo Local reported Saturday that Eric Baldwin, 33, of Santee, was a little more than halfway through the trip after starting June 22. The roundup credited the original report to David Torres of the Independent Coast Observer.
Baldwin is raising money to buy hockey equipment for underprivileged children, according to the report. The effort briefly put Santee in front of readers far north of San Diego County as he passed through the Mendocino coast.
For Santee residents, the story is a local tie to a much bigger West Coast route: a hometown coach using an endurance challenge to support access to the sport. Readers can find the original roundup at Mendo Local, which links to the Independent Coast Observer item.
