Santee’s biggest Fourth of July event is set for today, with Santee Salutes - America250 running from 2 to 10 p.m. at Town Center Community Park East. The city’s schedule begins with parking lots opening at 2 p.m., shuttles from the Costco parking lot starting at 3 p.m. and food vendors opening at 4 p.m. The 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band is scheduled to perform from 4 to 5 p.m., followed by a patriotic ceremony at 6 p.m., a flyover by ShowBoss Productions and an evening performance by Those Guys from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Fireworks are scheduled for 9 p.m., with choreographed music available through SanteeTV. The city says this year’s fireworks show will be longer than previous years in honor of America’s 250th anniversary. Residents heading to the park should plan transportation carefully. The city says on-site parking is sold out, the YMCA footbridge is closed because of Santee Community Center construction, and free shuttles will run from Costco at 101 Town Center Parkway from 3 to 11 p.m., with no shuttle service during the fireworks show. The City of Santee says attendees may bring blankets, folding chairs, outside food and leashed dogs, but fireworks, sparklers, drones, glass containers, smoking, vaping and weapons are prohibited. More event details are available from the City of Santee.
