Three drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and 14 others were cited for license violations during a sobriety and driver's license checkpoint held over the weekend in Santee, the San Diego County Sheriff's Office reported Monday.
The checkpoint ran from 8 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday in the 8800 block of North Magnolia Avenue. A total of 905 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, with 57 drivers directed to a secondary inspection area for further evaluation, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Deputies arrested three drivers on suspicion of DUI involving alcohol. An additional 14 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle without a license or with a suspended or revoked license. Five vehicles were impounded during the operation.
Funding for the checkpoint was provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety via the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration โ part of a statewide effort to reduce impaired driving on local roads.
