A weekend sobriety checkpoint in Santee netted three DUI arrests and 14 citations for unlicensed or suspended drivers, the San Diego County Sheriff's Office reported.
The checkpoint ran from 8 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday in the 8800 block of North Magnolia Avenue. Deputies screened a total of 905 vehicles passing through, sending 57 to a secondary inspection area for further evaluation. Three drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
In addition, 14 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle without a valid license or on a suspended or revoked license. Deputies impounded five vehicles during the operation.
Funding for the checkpoint was provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, channeled through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
