State housing officials are urging San Diego County residents still recovering from the January 2024 storms to seek help through ReCoverCA before available funds are exhausted, according to East County Magazine.
The program is designed to help eligible homeowners and landlords repair or rebuild single-family properties damaged by the storms. East County Magazine reported that eligible homeowners generally must have a single-family property in the county with at least $8,000 in storm damage, use the home as a primary residence, meet income limits and be current on property taxes and mortgage payments.
Application assistance workshops are scheduled at the Mountain View/Beckwourth Library, 721 San Pasqual St. in San Diego, from 1 to 7 p.m. July 7, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 8 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 9. Additional in-person support is scheduled this month at the Valencia Park/Malcolm X Branch Library.
Once an application is started, homeowners have 30 days to complete and submit it or the application may be withdrawn. Program staff are expected to reach out during that window to help applicants finish.
For Santee and East County residents who had storm-related property damage, the timing matters. Officials advised residents to pause non-essential repair work while required environmental reviews are completed, because those reviews are needed before program funds can be committed.
