The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office identified the two people killed in a Ramona double homicide as 28-year-old Courtney Chandler and 32-year-old Nicholas McClure, according to a Friday, July 10, news release from the Sheriff’s Homicide Unit.
Deputies from the Ramona Sheriff’s Substation responded around 8:44 p.m. Monday, July 6, to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon involving a firearm in the 600 block of 11th Street in Ramona, the Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies found an adult woman and adult man inside the home with significant traumatic injuries; both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office said Chandler had been living in Ramona and McClure was a San Diego County resident. Ryan Proffitt, 33, of Escondido, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of murder and booked into San Diego Central Jail.
Investigators said the circumstances and motive remain under investigation, but based on information gathered so far, the incident appears isolated and there is no known threat to the community. For Santee and East County readers, the case is a reminder that major Sheriff’s investigations can move quickly across the region as new details are released.
