70,000 in San Diego County Joined What May Be the Largest Protest in U.S. History

The No Kings rallies held Saturday, March 26 drew more than 8 million participants across approximately 3,300 events nationwide and in cities worldwide, according to organizers — a scale they say makes it the largest protest in United States history.

In San Diego County, more than 70,000 people took part. The downtown rally at Waterfront Park drew between 40,000 and 50,000 marchers. East County communities held their own events across the region.

The La Mesa rally drew around 2,000 participants. Speakers included La Mesa Vice Mayor Lauren Cazares, Helix Water District Director Andrea Beth Damsky, and teacher Jay Steiger. Steiger told the crowd, "Enough is enough... It is time for you to stand up, step up, speak up and do not put up with this wannabe king and his enablers."

In El Cajon, a large crowd gathered alongside singers and musicians. Ramona saw 426 residents participate in a rally organized by Indivisible. Even the small desert community of Borrego Springs — with a population in the hundreds — drew more than 300 protesters, more than 10 percent of the town.

Protesters voiced opposition to what they described as antidemocratic actions by the Trump administration, the escalating war in Iran, and aggressive immigration enforcement. White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson dismissed the events as "Trump Derangement Therapy Sessions," alleging they were backed by left-wing financial supporters. Rally organizers are planning a May Day event urging workers, students, shoppers, and small businesses to take a day off to demonstrate economic power.
