Deputies arrested a man Tuesday morning after a reported carjacking attempt at the San Altos Trolley Station in Lemon Grove, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s officials said deputies from the Lemon Grove Sheriff’s Substation responded around 7:50 a.m. July 28 to the station at 1787 San Altos Place. The preliminary investigation found that the victim was seated in the passenger side of a 2021 Dodge Ram 1500 when Israel Sanchez entered the driver’s seat, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The victim tried to push Sanchez out of the vehicle as the two struggled inside the truck, officials said. During the struggle, the vehicle was shifted into drive and rolled forward before Sanchez exited and fled the area.

Deputies established a perimeter and located Sanchez a short time later in a driveway in the 1800 block of Lemon Grove Avenue, where he was detained without incident, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Officials said the victim identified Sanchez as the suspect and that no injuries were reported.

Sanchez was arrested on suspicion of carjacking and was expected to be booked into San Diego Central Jail after medical clearance for an unrelated matter. The Sheriff’s Office asked anyone with information to call 858-868-3200 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
