A Lakeside man who pleaded guilty to killing his mother was sentenced Tuesday to 30 years to life in state prison, according to City News Service reporting published by Patch.

Arleigh Clifford Anderson, 55, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the Jan. 24, 2022, death of Judith Terrebonne Anderson, 79. Sheriff's deputies responded to a Riverview Avenue home that afternoon and found her unresponsive. She was later pronounced dead at the scene, and Anderson was detained.

NBC San Diego previously reported that around the time of the killing, Anderson called 911 and told a dispatcher he had taken too much medication, did not remember what happened and believed he had hurt his mother. Deputy District Attorney Miriam Shoval, who prosecuted the case, described the killing as tragic and said Judith Anderson was a loving mother and active grandmother, according to the Patch report.

The case is an East County courtroom update from Lakeside, just north of Santee, and closes a homicide prosecution that began more than four years ago. The sentence means Anderson faces a life term in state prison.
