A Little League playoff game in Blossom Valley was nearly cut short Tuesday night by a power outage before a Lakeside Fire crew stepped in with a rescue-unit light tower, according to ABC 10News.
The outage hit just before 7 p.m. near the Rios Canyon Little League field after a power line began arcing. Field lights went out in the third inning of a District 41 Tournament of Champions game for players ages 10 to 12.
Parent and league board member Ryan Abell told ABC 10News the delay could have forced games to be rescheduled because of pitcher pitch-count rules. Lakeside Fire responded to secure the area while SDG&E repairs were pending, then learned the playoff game was in jeopardy.
Fire Marshal Jeremy Davis said a captain got approval to bring in a rescue unit equipped with a 15-foot LED light tower. The lights were set up near the left-field line, brightening enough of the field for the game to finish while the unit remained available for emergency calls.
Afterward, the players got a tour of the fire rig. For East County families, it was the kind of small community moment that sticks: first responders handling the safety issue, then finding a way to let the kids keep playing.
