La Mesa History Center will host a Silent Movie Night on Saturday, July 18, bringing early local film history to Trinity Presbyterian Church in Spring Valley.

According to the History Center, the 6:30 p.m. program will feature two locally made 1911 "Flying A" one-reel films and the 1916 Douglas Fairbanks feature "Manhattan Madness." San Diego organist Russ Peck is scheduled to accompany the films on the San Diego Theater Organ Society's Wurlitzer 4/24 theater pipe organ.

Historian Jim Newland will open the evening with a presentation on the Flying A's history in La Mesa, giving the screening a local-history angle beyond a standard movie night.

For Santee and East County residents, the event is a short drive and a chance to see a piece of regional arts history presented live. The event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3902 Kenwood Drive in Spring Valley.

Tickets are available through La Mesa History Center, which also notes discounts for La Mesa History Center members and Theatre Organ Society of San Diego members.
