President Donald Trump lashed out at allies Tuesday and declared that securing the Strait of Hormuz — the vital oil chokepoint closed by Iran since the war began — is not America’s responsibility.

“That’s not for us. That’ll be for France. That’ll be for whoever’s using the strait,” Trump told reporters Tuesday, adding, “Go get your own oil!” The president said U.S. military operations could conclude within two to three weeks, but signaled the aftermath would be left to other nations.

Meanwhile, U.S. strikes continued to hit targets inside Iran, with airstrikes Tuesday striking the central city of Isfahan and setting off a large fireball. Iran struck back by attacking a Kuwaiti oil tanker in the Persian Gulf. The conflict, which began February 28 with U.S. and Israeli strikes, has killed more than 3,000 people and severely disrupted global energy markets.

For San Diego residents — including those in Santee and East County — the war’s impact is felt at the pump. Brent crude oil hovered around $107 a barrel Tuesday, up more than 45 percent since the conflict began. Gas prices in San Diego County have consistently run well above the national average, with local stations recently topping $5.90 per gallon. The national average crossed $4 per gallon earlier in the week.

At Naval Base San Diego, Miramar, and Camp Pendleton, military families continue watching the situation closely as deployed service members remain involved in operations. Trump announced he would deliver a prime-time address Wednesday evening to update the American public on the war’s status.
