Reports about conditions aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln are drawing attention in San Diego as the aircraft carrier heads back toward home port for replacement, according to ABC 10News.

ABC 10News reported that Parker Moore, a retired chief petty officer who deployed on the Lincoln and remains in contact with people aboard the ship, said water shortages, limited showers and food rationing are problems sailors can face during deployments. Texts described by Moore included food and water rationing, an extended period without a port call, mail disruptions and concerns about sailors' mental health.

The Navy told ABC 10News it has not observed an increase in suicidal ideation or attempts aboard the ship and said the Lincoln has chaplains, behavioral health staff and other support resources available. On supply issues, the Navy said leadership prioritized mission-critical supplies while operating in a contested environment, with food, hygiene items and mail handled in that order.

For Santee and East County readers with relatives or friends serving at sea, the story is less about ship operations than the human strain of long deployments. Delayed mail, limited contact and uncertainty about return timing can affect families at home, even when official updates say a mission is continuing safely.

The Department of Defense had not confirmed when or where the Lincoln would dock, according to ABC 10News. Families following the deployment should rely on official Navy channels and direct communication from their service members when available.
