San Diego County health officials are urging parents and caregivers to immediately stop using all Nara Organics Whole Milk Organic Infant Formula after a voluntary nationwide recall tied to a multistate infant botulism outbreak, according to East County Magazine and county health officials.
The FDA and CDC announced the recall June 13 after three infants, ages 2 to 5 months, were hospitalized with infant botulism in California, Pennsylvania and Washington. All three were treated with BabyBIG botulism antitoxin and are recovering; no deaths have been reported.
The recall covers all lots and can sizes of Nara Organics Whole Milk Organic Infant Formula currently on the market. The product was sold nationwide at Target stores, Target.com and Nara.com between July 2025 and June 2026.
For Santee families, the practical step is simple: check any formula at home before using it. County officials advise families to stop feeding the product immediately, isolate and label any opened containers, sanitize bottles and surfaces that may have touched the formula, and seek emergency care if an infant shows symptoms such as constipation, poor feeding, drooping eyelids, weakness, loss of head control or breathing difficulty.
County Environmental Health and Quality staff are working with local retailers to remove the recalled product from shelves. Parents with health concerns should contact their pediatrician or health care provider.
