A wildfire burning northwest of Lake Henshaw grew to 80 acres Friday afternoon, with CAL FIRE reporting a moderate to dangerous rate of spread and evacuation orders and warnings in place for the Grade Fire.

The fire was burning along East Grade Road in San Diego County, northwest of Lake Henshaw, according to CAL FIRE. The agency listed East Grade Road as closed and posted incident photos from an ALERTCalifornia/UC San Diego camera view.

Earlier Friday updates from CAL FIRE said the fire had reached 50 acres with active spotting after first being listed as a 20-acre new incident. CAL FIRE also reported that additional air tankers had been requested as crews worked the fire.

For Santee and inland East County residents, the main impacts to watch are smoke, changing air quality and mountain travel conditions. Anyone heading toward Palomar Mountain, Lake Henshaw or the Highway 76 corridor should check official updates before leaving.
