El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells led challenger Alexander Kraft in early election results reported Wednesday by NBC 7 San Diego. Wells had 9,578 votes, or 60.94%, compared with Kraft’s 6,139 votes, or 39.06%.

Wells has served as mayor for more than 12 years. In NBC’s reporting, he emphasized local infrastructure and street maintenance as priorities in his reelection campaign.

Kraft, a political organizer who grew up in El Cajon, focused his campaign on housing costs, wages, homelessness and park funding. He is a member of the Peace and Freedom Party.
