A driver was killed early Tuesday in a single-vehicle rollover crash on westbound Interstate 8 near state Route 67 in El Cajon, according to NBC 7 San Diego.

The crash happened around 5:30 a.m. on westbound I-8, the California Highway Patrol told NBC 7. The vehicle overturned several times, and Heartland Fire & Rescue reported that crews had to work to extricate the unidentified driver from the overturned vehicle.

At least two lanes were closed while emergency crews responded. No other injuries were reported, according to NBC 7.

The crash hit a major East County connector during the morning commute. For Santee drivers, the I-8 and SR-67 area is one of the key routes between the city, El Cajon and the rest of the county.

Roadways were slick after overnight rain, NBC 7 reported, though authorities had not said whether rain contributed to the crash.
