A man killed in a solo motorcycle crash in Descanso has been identified as Fernando Omar Herrera, 39, of San Diego.

Herrera's motorcycle veered off the roadway on Viejas Boulevard at Merigan Fire Road on the night of Feb. 8, striking a wire fence, according to East County Magazine. Responding paramedics provided lifesaving measures but were unable to save him. He was pronounced dead at 11:38 p.m. from head and neck injuries.

Descanso is a small mountain community in the Cuyamaca Mountains, about 25 miles east of El Cajon in San Diego County's backcountry. The cause of the crash has not been publicly reported.
