Sheriff's investigators seized hundreds of pounds of flavored nicotine, vape and kratom products Thursday during an investigation at an Alpine smoke shop, according to ABC 10News and City News Service. The case began after deputies received complaints about possible flavored and underage tobacco sales at Alpine Smoke and Vape in the 2100 block of Arnold Way, near Interstate 8.
Deputies assigned to the Crime Suppression Team investigated the complaints and later served a search warrant at the business. The Lakeside Sheriff's Substation, the Sheriff's Marijuana Enforcement Team and a county code enforcement officer assisted, according to the report.
Sheriff's officials said deputies seized 461 pounds of flavored nicotine and vape products, 526 pounds of kratom products, 25 grams of marijuana, 11 THC vape pens or marijuana cigarettes and $340 in cash. Officials also said there had been reports alleging marijuana and psilocybin mushroom products were being sold.
An employee was detained during the investigation, but no arrests were made, according to ABC 10News. County code enforcement officials also noted several code violations at the business.
For Santee and Lakeside residents, the case is another East County example of sheriff's teams targeting alleged illegal retail sales tied to tobacco, cannabis and other regulated products. The Sheriff's Department had not announced charges as of the report.
