East County shoppers have two new retail options this month as TJ Maxx and Ulta Beauty have both opened at Grossmont Center in La Mesa.

TJ Maxx, located at 8790 Grossmont Blvd., offers its signature selection of brand-name apparel, accessories, and home goods at discount prices. The chain's president, Nancy Carpenter, said in a statement that TJ Maxx is "thrilled to join the La Mesa community." In celebration of the opening, TJ Maxx announced a $10,000 donation to a local charity and participation in Save the Children's U.S. Programs fundraising campaign.

Ulta Beauty opened next door at 8788 Grossmont Blvd., providing cosmetics, fragrances, and a full range of body, skin, and hair care products.

La Mesa Mayor Mark Arapostathis welcomed both businesses, noting that their arrival will "contribute to local tax revenue, create employment opportunities, and increase consumer activity" at the center and in surrounding areas. "Residents are excited to have convenient access to well-known, quality retailers close to home," Arapostathis said, adding that he hopes more businesses will follow.

The openings come as a bright spot for East County retail, as many storefronts across the greater San Diego area have closed in recent years. Grossmont Center, anchored by Westfield and located near SR-125, serves as a major retail hub for Santee, La Mesa, and surrounding communities.
