The owners of Lost Cause Meadery and Oddish Wine have purchased the former Phillip’s Maytag Appliance Center near La Mesa Village and plan to convert it into a 5,000-square-foot culinary hub, according to Times of San Diego.

Billy and Suzanna Beltz plan to preserve much of the building’s vintage character while adding a coffee shop, cafe, restaurant, bar and retail wine shop under its long-standing wooden barrel-shaped ceiling. The property is at 8495 La Mesa Blvd., about one block northeast of La Mesa Village.

The concept is still awaiting city permits. If approved, the space would include a kitchen, dining areas, beer, wine, mead and cider service, a wine shop and eventually outdoor seating. The Beltzes told Times of San Diego their goal is to begin welcoming customers by late 2027.

The food program is expected to come from Bica, a Normal Heights cafe known for European-style sandwiches and fish options. Specific dishes have not been finalized.
