A 32-year-old man was arrested Sunday after deputies say an SUV was set on fire at a Spring Valley storage facility, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies from the Rancho San Diego Station responded at about 11 a.m. Aug. 2 to the Public Storage facility in the 1200 block of Sweetwater Road. A nearby deputy saw the SUV fully engulfed in flames and saw Randall Rojas walking away from it, the Sheriff's Office said.

When the deputy tried to stop Rojas, he fled on foot toward Jamacha Road and tried to discard evidence related to the fire, according to the Sheriff's Office. He was detained near the 8600 block of Jamacha Road.

Investigators said multiple witnesses identified Rojas as being in and around the SUV before and after the fire. Detectives from the Sheriff's Bomb and Arson Unit took over the case, and Rojas was arrested on suspicion of arson and two outstanding felony warrants.

No injuries were reported. The Sheriff's Office asked residents to report suspicious activity by calling (858) 868-3200, or 911 in an emergency.
