San Diego County residents will have another chance Saturday to safely dispose of unused or expired prescription medications during the DEA's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 25, and one of the closest drop-off options for Santee-area residents will be the Rancho San Diego Sheriff's Station on Campo Road in Spring Valley.
According to Patch, the countywide effort is free and anonymous, and sheriff's deputies will accept medications at several stations and substations across the region. Officials said sharps and needles will not be accepted at the event.
For Santee households, the Rancho San Diego location is the most convenient official site on this weekend's list, with additional East County options available in Alpine and Ramona. The annual event is designed to keep old prescriptions from being misused, stolen or flushed into wastewater systems.
Residents who miss Saturday's collection window can still dispose of unwanted prescriptions year-round at sheriff's stations and substations during normal business hours, according to the Sheriff's Office. With spring cleaning in full swing, this is one of the simplest ways to clear out old medications before they become a risk at home.
