Paving work is underway on the west side of Santee Lakes, bringing temporary road closures to parts of the park as crews improve asphalt near Lakes 1 through 4, according to the East County Advanced Water Purification Program.
Crews are grinding asphalt and laying new pavement beginning Friday, Sept. 4. Work hours are scheduled for Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The project area runs from Lake 1 up to Lake 4, and visitors are being asked to follow posted signs while the work is underway. East County AWP said the paving is expected to be completed by October.
For Santee residents and families planning park visits, the biggest impact is access on the west side of the lakes during weekday work hours. The preserve remains a major local recreation spot, so checking routes and allowing extra time before visiting will help avoid surprises.
The work is part of the broader East County Advanced Water Purification Program, which is building water infrastructure intended to create a local drinking water supply for the region.
