San Diego County residents have less than a week to weigh in on how county government can better serve them — including those in Santee and across the East County.
The San Diego County Board of Supervisors has launched a public survey asking residents about barriers to civic participation and how the Board can be more transparent and accessible. The survey deadline is Friday, Feb. 27. It can be completed online at https://engage.sandiegocounty.gov/board-meetings/surveys/board-meeting-participation-survey.
The survey focuses on four areas: how meeting information and materials are shared; how the public is invited to participate; how clearly procedures are explained; and how residents can submit public comments. The 18-question survey also asks what tools — such as improved digital streaming or more intuitive comment systems — would make residents more likely to get involved.
The Board of Supervisors governs an annual budget of more than $8 billion, covering everything from law enforcement funding to land use and public health decisions that directly affect Santee and unincorporated East County communities. District 2 Supervisor Joel Anderson represents East County, including much of the area around Santee.
County officials say feedback will be compiled into formal recommendations to be presented to the Board in spring. Those who need language interpreter services or disability accommodations to complete the survey should call (619) 594-4633. The county has previously experimented with evening community sessions and afternoon workshops to accommodate residents who cannot attend its standard Tuesday and Wednesday morning meetings.
