A 25-year-old Santee man was arrested early Thursday after an hours-long standoff that began with reports of a violent altercation between two adult brothers, according to East County Magazine, citing the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies from the Santee Sheriff's Station and Lakeside Sheriff's Substation responded just after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to a home in the 11000 block of Collinwood Drive. Investigators alleged that Chance Eckert strangled his brother for about 30 to 45 seconds, and deputies learned he remained inside the home with access to firearms.

Authorities evacuated several family members and tried to reach Eckert by phone and public address announcements. After those efforts were unsuccessful, the Sheriff's Special Enforcement Detail was called in, a search warrant was obtained and the tactical team served the warrant.

Deputies found Eckert in his bedroom just after 1:30 a.m. Thursday and took him into custody without further incident or injury to law enforcement. During a search of the property, authorities reported finding and seizing eight rifles hidden in different parts of the home.

Eckert was booked into San Diego Central Jail on felony assault charges. Officials had not immediately released details about his brother's medical condition, East County Magazine reported.
