The National Weather Service in San Diego has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for San Diego County inland valleys from 10 a.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Sunday, covering communities including Santee.

The warning calls for dangerously hot conditions, with high temperatures expected in the mid-90s in the western valleys and around 105 near the foothills. NWS said heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events.

The agency is advising residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun and check on relatives and neighbors. Those precautions are especially important for older adults, young children, outdoor workers and anyone without reliable cooling at home.

For Santee families, the timing matters: the warning arrives during late-week errands, youth activities and outdoor plans. Residents should build in shade and cooling breaks, avoid leaving people or pets in parked vehicles, and shift strenuous outdoor work away from the hottest part of the day when possible.
