A Santee ice cream shop saw a heat-wave boost this weekend as inland temperatures sent residents looking for ways to cool off, according to a 10News report from Handel's Homemade Ice Cream on Carlton Hills Boulevard.

The report described long lines outside the shop as families and regular customers stopped for frozen treats during the hot stretch. Customers interviewed by 10News said ice cream had become one of their favorite ways to handle the summer heat.

Employees told the station that business tends to pick up when temperatures climb. One worker said the shop schedules more employees during hot weather so customers are not left standing outside too long.

The rush came as the National Weather Service issued an extreme heat warning for Santee and much of inland San Diego County through the weekend, according to 10News.

For Santee residents, the story is a small but familiar summer snapshot: when inland heat settles in, local pools, shaded spaces and neighborhood businesses become part of the community's cooling routine.
