San Diego County public health officials have confirmed two unrelated measles cases, including one involving possible public exposure at two locations, according to the County News Center.

The county said the infectious person was at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, 333 W. Harbor Drive, from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. May 17, and at Baskin-Robbins, 791 Palm Ave., Suite 103, in Imperial Beach, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. May 20. County Immunization staff are working with the hotel to follow up with potentially exposed employees, and notifications are being sent to guests who were on site during those times.

Health officials said measles symptoms typically appear seven to 21 days after exposure. Early symptoms can include fever, cough, runny nose and red eyes, followed by a rash one to four days later. People with symptoms are being asked to call their health care provider before arriving for care so infection-control measures can be arranged.

No public exposure site in Santee was listed in the county announcement, but the alert matters for East County residents who commute, work, dine or attend events across the region. County officials said vaccination remains the best prevention, especially for travelers, and directed residents with questions to the County Immunization Branch at (866) 358-2966 or sdiz.org.
