Firefighters found a man and a dog dead early Saturday after a house fire in El Cajon, according to ABC 10News, citing City News Service and Heartland Fire & Rescue. Crews responded shortly before 2 a.m. to 1433 Melody Lane and found the front of the home fully involved with flames. Because firefighters had received a report that someone might still be inside, crews entered the home in emergency rescue mode. Heartland Fire public information officer Andy McKellar said crews searched the home and found a deceased male and a deceased dog inside. No other remains or injured people were found, and no firefighter injuries were reported. The fire was knocked down around 2:15 a.m. and appeared to have started in or near a bedroom, according to the report. The cause remained under investigation. The response included Heartland Fire & Rescue, El Cajon police, the San Diego County Sheriff's Office, Santee Fire Department, Lakeside Fire Protection District and San Miguel Fire Rescue, underscoring the regional mutual-aid network that covers East County emergencies.
