Thirty-seven horses rescued from the Villa Chardonnay property in Julian are now available for adoption, Patch reported Wednesday, citing the San Diego Humane Society.

The horses are among 48 still in the organization's care after authorities seized 175 horses from the Julian property earlier this year. Patch reported that the remaining horses are receiving rehabilitation and individualized care after years of limited or no veterinary care.

Many of the horses are being housed at Willow Glen Equestrian Centre in El Cajon after being moved from Julian in July to make them more accessible to staff, volunteers and potential adopters. Four horses needing advanced care are being housed at the Humane Society's Escondido campus.

The Humane Society is seeking experienced owners who can provide patience and ongoing care. The horses are being placed as companion animals only, and prospective adopters must complete an application and be approved before making an appointment to meet them.
