The Pentagon on Tuesday announced the first detailed casualty figures from Operation Epic Fury: seven U.S. service members have been killed and approximately 140 others wounded since the U.S. and Israel began bombing Iran 10 days ago, according to East County Magazine.
Chief Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said the "vast majority" of the injuries have been minor, and 108 service members had already returned to duty. Eight remain with life-threatening injuries. The Pentagon has not publicly disclosed the unit affiliations or home stations of the casualties.
An estimated 1,255 people in Iran have been killed since the conflict began, along with 13 in Israel and 14 in other Gulf states, according to Al Jazeera. The U.S. and Israel have launched thousands of air strikes against Iranian targets, including top government officials, an oil refinery, and nuclear program facilities.
President Donald Trump has said the assault will continue until Iran offers an "unconditional surrender." Iran's new leadership has remained defiant, with no public indication of impending capitulation.
For East County military families, the mounting casualties underscore that this conflict carries real costs for communities across San Diego County.
